Faux locs are a trendy and protective natural hairstyle that imitates the look of traditional dreadlocks or locs without the long-term commitment or the need to actually lock your hair. Faux locs are created by wrapping extensions around your natural hair, giving you the appearance of real locs. Here’s how you can achieve faux locs:
Materials Needed:
Faux locs hair extensions (synthetic or human hair).
Comb or detangling brush.
Hair clips or sectioning clips.
Styling gel or edge control.
Crochet or latch hook (optional).
Scissors.
Optional: Hair jewelry or beads for decoration.
Steps:
Preparation:
Make sure your natural hair is clean, moisturized, and detangled.
Section Your Hair:
Divide your hair into small sections using clips. The size of the sections will determine the size of your faux locs.
Start with the Base:
Take a small section of extensions, fold it in half, and place the folded end at your roots. This will create a loop.
Wrap the Extensions:
Use the loop to thread the rest of the extension through, creating a tight knot around your natural hair. This forms the base of the faux loc.
Continue Wrapping:
Divide the extension into two equal parts.
Hold one part with your natural hair and twist them together in a clockwise direction.
Wrap the other part around the twisted section in a clockwise direction to form the loc.
Secure the Ends:
Use a small rubber band or heat seal the ends of the faux loc to secure them.
Repeat the Process:
Repeat steps 3-6 for each section of your hair, working your way around your head.
Styling:
Once all the faux locs are in place, you can style them as desired. You can leave them as is or add accessories like beads or hair jewelry.
Set with Gel (Optional):
If you want a neater look, apply a bit of styling gel or edge control to your edges and baby hairs.
Curling (Optional):
If you’re using synthetic hair, you can dip the locs in hot water to create curls or waves.
Maintenance:
To keep your faux locs looking fresh, you can retwist any loose locs as needed.
Faux locs are a versatile protective style that allows you to experiment with different lengths, colors, and textures without permanently changing your hair. They can be worn for weeks to months, depending on how well you maintain them. Whether you want to achieve a natural, bohemian, or edgy look, faux locs offer a wide range of styling possibilities.
